Legacy Day 2018
August 18 @ 10:00 am - 10:00 pm
2018 marks the fifth annual Legacy Day festival in Chestertown. Legacy Day started as a celebration of the rich curtail heritage of African Americans in Kent County. Now it is a community-wide party where all residents recognize their shared history and have as good time doing it. Great live music by Soulified Village, favorite food, drink and craft vendors, a parade and dancing in the street with DJ Lonnie Butcher means fun for everyone.
Last year Legacy Day saluted the African American educators who taught observed in segregated schools. This year we carry the theme forward by telling the stories of black and white teachers and students who dealt with the early years of an integrated school system.
Enjoy a Genealogy Workshop (10:00 am) at the public library, a Gospel Concert at Janes United Methodist Church (2:00 pm), a Parade down High Street (5:00 pm) followed by a community block party (6:00 pm). An exhibition illustrating this year’s theme will be on display at the Historical Society during the day.
